Keren Blumenthal Yanir
Keren Blumenthal Yanir is an Israeli art therapist, psychotherapist, and senior supervisor.
She has been working with individuals with eating disorders (EDs) for almost 20 years, accompanying them and their families through the complex and often ambivalent journey toward healing.
Keren worked at a multidisciplinary center and now runs a private practice in Tel Aviv, where she meets with adults with EDs and supervises therapists at various stages of their careers.
Keren’s fascination with art made from real food began almost 20 years ago, when she saw an exhibition by Israeli artist Michal Shamir, who presented two artworks made of gummy candies. She was struck by their presence—they were both sensual and tempting, yet repulsive and nauseating. This experience sparked her curiosity about the potential of using food as an art medium in art therapy, as a means of accessing the unconscious and core psychological issues.
Keren conducted research on the use of food as an art medium in the treatment of EDs as part of her Ph.D. studies in expressive therapies at Lesley University, from which she graduated in 2025. Use the QR codes to reach videos of the research experiential sessions.
She has also developed a comprehensive course on art therapy for EDs and teaches in the M.A. program at Ono Academic College.
